I’ve been really enjoying watching and covering the Stanley Cup’s travels as all of the Carolina Hurricanes’ personnel celebrate their win in June.
In 2006, when the Hurricanes last won, it was the early digital age – Twitter had just opened, and it wasn’t like players or media members were scrambling to Facebook and Myspace to share the Cup’s adventures. We’re all really getting to experience this for the first time – this way – as Caniacs, and that’s just really cool to me. After all, wasn’t that the goal of the digital age: to connect people?
Alright, that’s enough philosophy for one column – let’s do that hockey!
Tracking the Stanley Cup
In classic Frederik Andersen fashion, the goaltender known for his love of Denmark’s signature building blocks spent his day with the Cup in none other than Legoland. The picture of him with the Cup in the miniature city really gives the Godzilla vibes…his nickname (‘Zilla’) comes full circle.
With the Cup in Denmark, Nikolaj Ehlers also got his day with the cup – cruising down the road with it in the passenger seat of a convertible banana yellow Lamborghini. Yes, he even made sure that the Cup was strapped in with the seatbelt.
It appeared that he was, in fact, being closely tailed by the Keeper of the Cup, Phil Pritchard.
As for where the cup is off to next, it appears that there has been confirmation that it will be in Finland for Jesperi Kotkaniemi’s day on July 27th. The Cup will also make its way to Minnesota for Jackson Blake’s day on July 30th, as previously reported, and K’Andre Miller’s day on August 1st.
Carolina Hurricanes Re-Sign Ronan Seeley
Thursday, the Hurricanes announced that they signed Ronan Seeley to a one-year contract worth $850k at the NHL level, $100k at the AHL level, and with a guarantee of $160k. In doing so, they avoided arbitration. The 23-year-old defenseman has spent the past two seasons as an alternate captain for the Chicago Wolves, and had his NHL debut on April 14, 2026, against the New York Islanders, which was the Hurricanes’ last regular season game.
After all this time, I still can’t help but remember the seal art which featured him – as requested by the Chicago Wolves’ social admin.
