GM Chris Drury is on a mission to reshape the New York Rangers roster, and could move significant pieces in July. One NHL veteran who might turn the Rangers into winners could be former Chicago Blackhawks legend, Jonathan Toews.

Jonathan Toews and Agent Pat Brisson have made it known that Toews is all-in on a return to the NHL in 2025-26. The forward won three-Stanley Cups in Chicago and should be a highly sought-after player once he puts himself out there.

According to NHL Insider Chris Johnston, there are upwards of 10 NHL teams who are in on the forward. If GM Chris Drury isn’t already in on Toews, he should be.

Toews could slot in on the team’s precarious third line, which doesn’t have an owner for the 3C spot, as neither Jonny Brodzinski nor Juuso Parssinen could be a long-term solution.

That is, depending on Mike Sullivan’s vision with the team, of course. Toews has a winning background and knows what it takes to make it to the ultimate prize, and his leadership capabilities make him a steal.

Questions regarding his health shouldn’t be an issue as he’s revealed he’s been working on regaining control over it in the past two seasons he’s been away.

«It’s too long of a story to share all the details here, but it’s been almost (five) years of searching for a way to heal the inflammatory and immune system issues that took me out of hockey,» Toews wrote. «The wisdom of Ayurveda has taught me that everything I experience, I am responsible for. Not only did it teach me better diet choices specific to my body type, it has deepened my intuitive relationship with myself and the world around me.»

For GM Chris Drury, all that matters is dealing with the money portion of the issue, should Toews be a player the Rangers organization desires.

He could be a part of the leadership of the new team in New York, and provide stability where there has been none, with Adam Fox and others wearing the A.

Toews hasn’t suited up in the NHL since April 2023 and has been reported to be skating in Arizona in preparation for his comeback.

It’ll be exciting to see if Drury and the Rangers ink him to a deal in 2025-26, but for now we’ll have to sit and be patient.
