Former Bruins assistant general manager Evan Gold found his new gig just a couple of hours down I-95 south. And it sounds a lot like the job he left behind in Boston.
The New York Islanders announced Monday they hired Gold to be an assistant general manager under GM Mathieu Darche. On top of contract negotiations, salary cap management, scouting and other duties, Gold was also named GM of the Isles’ top AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Hammers.
Gold, who had been with the Bruins for the past 12 years, wore all those hats for the B’s since 2023 when he was named an assistant general manager under Don Sweeney.
“I am incredibly grateful to Mathieu and the entire Islanders ownership group for the opportunity to be part of such a respected franchise and to help build a Stanley Cup champion on Long Island,” Gold said in a statement. “The Islanders have a rich history, a passionate fan base, and a deep connection to the community. It is an honor to join this organization, and I look forward to working alongside Mathieu, our players, coaches and staff to build a team that our fans can be proud of for years to come.”
While playoff success escaped Gold’s teams in Providence, the P-Bruins did win a lot of games, winning no fewer than 41 the last three seasons and leading the AHL last season with 54 victories.
Before he left the B’s organization last month, Gold had been a finalist for the Toronto Maple Leaf’s GM job that ultimately went to John Chayka.
“Evan brings a rare combination of experience, intelligence, and results to our hockey operations department,” Darche said in a statement. “Over the past several years, he has excelled in nearly every facet of building a successful franchise at the NHL and AHL levels — from contract negotiations and cap management to leading the Providence Bruins to the best record in the AHL this past season. His background, combined with his legal and business acumen, makes him an outstanding fit for our department as we continue building a team that competes on the island and in Hamilton.”
The Bruins have done some reshuffling in their front office this offseason. While fellow assistant GM Jamie Langenbrunner also left the organization, taking a senior advisory role with the Nashville Predators, the B’s hired former Buffalo GM Kevyn Adams to be a senior advisor to Sweeney, and both Dennis Bonvie and Jeremy Rogalski have been bumped up to assistant general managers. The club also hired Alex Giminez for the newly created position of director of hockey operations, collective bargaining agreement.
