On Aug. 3, the New York Islanders announced the hiring of Evan Gold as the team’s Assistant General Manager and as General Manager of their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hamilton Hammers.
Chris Lamoriello, who served as the General Manager of the Bridgeport Islanders for nine seasons, will continue with the organization, focusing on player personnel and scouting. During his time leading the team, Bridgeport posted a record of 293-279-3 and made three playoff appearances, with the latest happening last season.
Road to Hamilton
Evan Gold, originally from Toronto, Ontario, started his professional hockey career as a hockey operations assistant with the Washington Capitals. In 2015, the Law graduate from the University of Toronto joined the Boston Bruins as their head of legal affairs.
In 2019, Gold was promoted to assistant general manager, where he spent the remainder of his tenure with the Bruins. In 2023, the Bruins added Gold’s organizational portfolio as general manager of their AHL affiliate, Providence Bruins.
With Gold as the AHL Bruins’ general manager, the Bruins finished no worse than third in the Atlantic Division, with the best season coming last year when the Bruins finished with the best record in the AHL and set a wins record in a 72-game schedule with 54.
Final Thoughts
The inclusion of Evan Gold brings a new dynamic to the Islanders’ management staff. As one of the NHL’s emerging executives, Gold will manage AHL team operations and serve as the assistant to general manager Mathieu Darche.
