San Diego’s Padres, Aztecs, Toreros, Tritons, Gulls, Sockers, Clippers, Strike Force, SDFC and Wave, meet the Oceanside Shock.
San Diego County’s new Federal Prospects Hockey League franchise unveiled its nickname and colors on Tuesday night, nine weeks before the club’s Oct. 10 home opener against the Fresno Falcons at Frontwave Arena.
The Shock’s logo is a roundel in Carolina blue, black and white surrounding what the team calls “a determined jellyfish” holding a hockey stick. The ocean-dweller “serves as an ambassador for the vibrant beach culture, welcoming the community, and adventurous spirit that defines North County San Diego,” the team said.
The Shock are owned by San Diego Sockers coach and owner Phil Salvagio, who is also a co-owner of Frontwave Arena. The G League’s San Diego Clippers, Indoor Football League’s San Diego Strike Force and Major Arena Soccer League’s San Diego Sockers also play at the arena, but the Shock are the only team to carry the Oceanside name.
The Shock are part of the FPHL’s Western expansion, joining new franchises in Fresno and Stockton. The FPHL’s regular season will run through April.
