The Quinn Hughes conversation took up all the oxygen online yesterday, especially between fans of the New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild. It started with us, then Bill Guerin spoke on the situation which fanned the flames, and then it got the rest of hockey media talking.
The fact of the matter is we went from Minnesota guaranteeing a Quinn extension happens with the Wild, to the same people using different language that points to nothing as a guarantee. Whereas the expectation was this would be sorted out by now, it’s become a bit of a conundrum for the Wild.
Bill Guerin, when asked if he was still confident Quinn Hughes would re-sign:
“I’m not gonna get too far into it, but I have been talking to his camp all along. These things take time, they are big decisions for players and teams, so it’s a process to work through it.”

Nothing is guaranteed either way. Quinn could stay in Minnesota. However, it feels even more possible now than before that there’s at least a chance he decides otherwise. The longer this drags on, the better for Devils fan hopefuls.
