Beloved Maple Leafs forward Max Domi‘s comments from his appearance on ‘The FAN 590 Morning Show’ revealed where his future with the Maple Leafs is heading.

Unfortunately for Max Domi and the Leafs, it was an embarrassing end to what many had hoped would be a lengthy playoff run after they fell 6-1 in Game 7 to the Florida Panthers just a couple of short weeks ago.

Max Domi’s Future with the Maple Leafs Has Been in Question

Those penalties, coupled with his continued struggles to provide secondary scoring, led many to speculate that the Leafs may already be contemplating moving on from the 30-year-old.

With a 13-team no-trade list, a $3.75M cap hit, and the expected loss of Mitch Marner, moving on from Domi is easier said than done. General Manager Brad Treliving promised major changes to the club’s ‘DNA’ this off-season, and given his track record in Game 7’s Domi is the type of player Treliving wants more of — though this year’s Game 7 wasn’t quite the desired outcome.

“I absolutely love playing here. I love playing for the Toronto maple Leafs. Pressure is a huge privilege and something you dream of your whole life to experience. Is it easy? No, but nothing’s easy, and hard things are what make it fun.”

Despite the rumours, it doesn’t sound like Domi has any plans to request a trade out of Toronto, and while he doesn’t have full protection from trades, the significant changes Brad Treliving is looking to make may finally put Domi in a position to succeed for the Leafs and provide them with more consistent secondary scoring – which will be needed in the absence of Marner.
