The Stanley Cup is heading back to Long Island — and it’s coming home with one of the Island’s own.
Carolina Hurricanes goaltender and Sound Beach native Brandon Bussi will bring the Cup to The Rinx in Hauppauge next Wednesday, the same rink where he played on as a kid.
Bussi, the first Suffolk County native to win the Stanley Cup, announced the homecoming on Instagram.
“Long Island, I’m bringing the Stanley Cup home,” he wrote.
Bussi and The Cup will be at The Rinx from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., and wants everyone to come celebrate with him.
“Come out, bring the energy, and let’s make this a day to remember,” he posted. “This is a moment I will never forget and I can’t wait to celebrate with the entire Long Island community.”
It comes less than two months after Bussi completed one of the most improbable journeys to the Stanley Cup.
The Sound Beach native went undrafted after three seasons at Western Michigan before beginning his professional career with the Boston Bruins. He spent several years working his way through the minor leagues, including 111 games in the American Hockey League, before finally making his NHL debut with Carolina in October.

By June, he was playing on hockey’s biggest stage.
After sitting out the first two games of the Stanley Cup finals, Bussi was called into action midway through Game 3, and ended up starting the final three games of the series against the Vegas Golden Knights. He won all three, including a 3-0 shutout in Game 6 that clinched the championship for the Hurricanes.
“To be honest, I’m feeling a little a numb right now,” Bussi said after the clinching game. “I’m sure I’m going to crash at some point, but I haven’t yet. … I’m going to remember it obviously forever.”
After Hauppauge, the party heads west to Freeport to the Nautical Mile. Bussi is also bringing the Cup to Bracco’s Clam & Oyster Bar from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. No reservations are needed.
