One name is generating more and more buzz around the Montreal Canadiens.
That name is young Alexander Zharovsky, and a former Habs goaltender has now added even more fuel to the hype.Zharovsky spent a few weeks in Montreal this summer, training with fellow Russian Ivan Demidov, only adding to fans’ impatience to see him sign here.
Zachary Fucale, the former Canadiens goaltender who now plays in the KHL, has faced him a few times.
His verdict was crystal clear.
Speaking on RDS, he pointed to one striking detail: Zharovsky was getting time on his team’s first power-play unit.
And at just 18 years old, in a league filled with veterans, that’s no small thing.
“That’s rare.
Not everyone is capable of doing that!”
– Zachary Fucale
The KHL is known for putting experience first.
Seeing an 18-year-old play such an important role is completely out of the ordinary, and it says a lot about the youngster’s talent and work ethic.
Zharovsky’s early Montreal experience could ease his transition to the Canadiens
Fucale also sees a major advantage in the fact that Zharovsky spent a good part of the summer in Montreal.
By spending time with Demidov and getting familiar with the Canadiens’ facilities, Zharovsky has already gotten a head start.
Adjusting to a new continent, a new language and a different style of hockey is never easy.
Having already broken the ice helps tremendously.
The Canadiens continue to build around their young core.
And if Fucale is right, Zharovsky could become a valuable piece of it.
