A young forward has decided to make a risky decision for his health.

Acquired from the New York Rangers in the JT Miller trade, the 26-year-old Czech played only 12 games last season.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Over the past few seasons, Chytil has missed an alarming number of games, most of them because of head trauma.

His latest campaign also ended abruptly, marked by facial fractures and persistent migraines.

Despite everything, Chytil said he had recovered by the spring.

In April 2026, he said he finally felt like himself again and was targeting Canucks training camp.

Filip Chytil faces a difficult decision as concussion concerns threaten his NHL future

That’s where the concern grows.

Brain health specialists are clear: repeated concussions increase the risk of long-term effects.

Those can include cognitive issues, mental health problems and chronic traumatic encephalopathy, better known as CTE.

At 26, Chytil is facing a heartbreaking choice.

Continue the career he loves, or protect his quality of life for the decades ahead.

The real question is no longer about his talent, but the price he may have to pay to keep playing. And only he can answer that.
