EAST LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – A Michigan State University student and club hockey player has died following a crash in Virginia over the weekend.
The Instagram page for MSU’s club hockey team announced Sunday Preston Korytkowski passed away Saturday. He was the captain of the Division 2 competitive club team.
“Posting this with a heavy heart. Our teammate, friend and Captain Preston sadly passed away last evening,” the post said.
Virginia State Police officials say the crash happened along I-95 in Caroline County shortly after 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to WWBT.
Korytkowski, 22, hit a semi-truck that was disabled and had pulled off on the shoulder, according to police. Korytkowski, who is from Rockford, Mich., died at the scene. The semi driver suffered minor injuries, according to WWBT.
No other details surrounding the crash have been released.
