Kent Hughes has made an official statement.
A statement directly from the Montreal Canadiens general manager has just been released, and it shows he has no intention of giving in to impatience.
Hughes is asking fans to trust the process.
After a quiet summer, part of the fan base is still hoping for a major move before the start of the 2026-2027 regular season.
But Hughes refuses to make a move just to calm the frustration.
His message to the fans is clear:
“We won’t do a dumb trade or a dumb move that might appease the passionate fanbase on a short-term basis and a year later it’s, ‘What the hell did they get us into?'”
“We hope that we have their patience to trust that we’re going to continue to push this thing forward. We’re not trying to save money. We are not trying to do anything other than make the right next move.”
– Kent Hughes
Kent Hughes will not sacrifice the future for a splashy move that might look good in the short term but could age badly.

He also wants to shut down a common criticism.
The Canadiens’ inactivity has absolutely nothing to do with the budget or anything like that. The club simply wants to make the right move, whether that’s a trade, a signing or something else.
That message echoes Phillip Danault, who recently defended management’s patience.
The real question is whether the fans will give him that patience. One thing is certain: Kent Hughes is waiting for the right moment, and he continues to work hard behind the scenes to improve his team.
