Dallas sports fans know all too well about sports droughts.
FC Dallas has never won a title, while other teams have faced hefty championship droughts. The Rangers went 62 years without a title, the Cowboys have not been to the NFC Championship Game since 1996, the Mavericks have only one title in 46 years, and the Dallas Stars are in the middle of a 28-year drought.
Dallas sports have only two titles this century in over 150 combined seasons. They haven’t been trying. The Rangers were one strike away twice in 2011; the Stars have been close again, losing the Cup Final in 6 games twice.
The Dallas Stars have been promising over the last several years but have not quite gotten there. The American Airlines Center has yet to host a game in the Stanley Cup Final. It’s about time the Stars go back.1999
27 years is a long time ago. The turn of the year always promises new beginnings. As 1999 turned, Stars fans hoped for what was to come. They swept the Oilers, beat the Blues in 6, and came back down from a 3-2 deficit against the Colorado Avalanche to win the series in 7. Buffalo took Game 1 in overtime before tying the series in Game 4. The Stars won the next two, hoisting the Stanley Cup late into the night of June 19-20, 1999.
Stars fans flocked to the sporting goods stores around Dallas after the triple overtime winner entered the net. That was the last time Stars fans bought championship merchandise. Not holding the Stanley Cup after 28 years is taking its toll on a fanbase waiting to erupt in celebration.

The Stars almost got back next season. Future Stars player Jason Arnott won the Stanley Cup in 2000 for the New Jersey Devils in a double-overtime, Game 6 thriller. June 8th of that year was also the last time Dallas hosted a game in the Stanley Cup Final. All of their 2020 Stanley Cup Final games were in Edmonton.
The Stars are in their resurgence era. They have made the playoffs several times since 2016. They lost in Round 1 in 2022 and 2026, Round 2 in 2016 and 2019, Round 3 in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and the Stanley Cup Final in 2020. The Stars have provided many great playoff memories. Now it’s time to deliver the ultimate one.
A Stanley Cup
Winning the Stanley Cup is an electric experience for every hockey fan in North America. To see their favorite team win a championship is on the list of the greatest moments in any sports fan’s life. Just hosting a Stanley Cup Final game in front of your fans is an exhilarating experience for the players. The Stars must go to the Stanley Cup Final this season.
At the time of their next chance, it is 28 years since their biggest triumph.
They’ve built their team for such a moment. For the players, it’s what they do in Game 1 and Game 6. Last year was a real stinker. The stakes are high this year. The Stars cannot afford another early exit.
Endless implications target the Stars for any reason other than a disappointing playoff performance.
Simply making it to the Stanley Cup Final is an absolute priority this season.
