We’ve got a lot to cover, including the Philadelphia Flyers wrapping up their summer business. We also look at some new rankings of young talent across the league, and where the Flyers’ talent falls. Dan Vladar has been given his flowers for his incredible 2025-26 season, and we take a look back at where the 2020 Flyers’ draft class is now.

Around the league, one Eastern Conference rival is headed to Germany in 2027-28 as the NHL Global Series continues. A top prospect remains unsigned as training camps near. We also look at some trade rumors and some trade analysis.

Philadelphia Flyers

A bit of late news, but the Flyers have officially tied up all of their loose ends of the offseason. The team announced earlier in the week that they have re-signed defenseman Hunter McDonald to a two-year, two-way/one-way contract with an AAV of $912,500.

Getting McDonald on a two-way deal was a solid move for the Flyers, especially while they’re figuring out their defensive core.

The Flyers also inked forward Nolan Foote to a one-year, two-way contract worth $850,000. Foote was mostly an AHL body last season, so I would expect that this season as well. The signing was actually reported by PuckPedia on July 3rd. It went official on August 19th.

That should conclude the team’s business for the summer.

Philly Hockey Now: Now, for some normal Daily content. The Athletic released its U23 ranking for the coming season. The Flyers had 4 prospects on the best overall U23 NHL players and prospects list. They also had 5 on the best U23 players drafted AFTER Round 1. Who made the list, and where did they fall?

The accolades were coming for Dan Vladar. Not only did he have the 2nd-best save of the season, but he was also given the honor of Save of the Year in the same game that he made the 2nd-best save. Oh yeah, and it was announced just after he was named a Top-10 goalie in the league.

Boston Hockey Now: The Bruins are headed to Germany! After acquiring German forward JJ Peterka over the summer, the Bruins have been named the host team for two games of the NHL Global Series, which will both be played in Peterka’s hometown of Munich. The Edmonton Oilers will also host two games in Cologne. The opponents for either series have yet to be announced.

Sticking in Bean Town, one of teh Bruins’ top center prospects, Matthew Proitas, still remains unsigned as training camp nears. Should the Bruins begin to worry?

Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings made a small move to pick up the massive centerman Sutter Muzzatti. It was likely a move that will benefit the AHL club. Still, Max Smith analyzes the Red Wings transaction.

Calgary Sun: It’s time to pick apart who on the Calgary Flames could be on the move before the team is competitive again. Kent Wilson lists a few players who could be on the move sooner rather than later. There are a few familiar names on the list.
