A major development appears to be on the verge of happening for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

The Zachary Bolduc situation really seems to be close to a resolution.

The reporter said he would be surprised if Bolduc were still without a contract on September 16, the day the Montreal Canadiens are scheduled to undergo their medical evaluations.

“A three-year deal at around $4 million per year makes sense to me…but I’m not betting on one or eight (years).”

He certainly isn’t saying that for no reason.

The Arber Xhekaj situation, though, appears to be different.

That distinction between the two situations lines up with some of the rumors already circulating, which pointed toward a quicker agreement for Zack Bolduc.

It’s worth remembering that Bolduc showed steady progress last season, capped by strong performances in the playoffs.

Arber Xhekaj keeps training in Brossard as Canadiens work toward contract resolution

Xhekaj, meanwhile, continues to train in Brossard despite not having a contract, a move that has been praised by several observers this summer.

Nick Suzuki recently stressed the importance of both players to the team and said he hoped their situations would be resolved quickly.

Everything points to his wish being granted soon, at least in part.

Xhekaj’s agent, Brian Bartlett, had offered reassuring comments in July before becoming much quieter in recent days.

Official training camp begins on September 16, which still gives both sides a few weeks to finalize the remaining details.

We’ll continue to keep a close eye on both situations for you.
