The Battle of Alberta is entering a new era.
Amazon Prime Video has announced its Canadian NHL broadcast schedule — and two of the 27 Wednesday night games that will be exclusive to the streaming platform this season are Battle of Alberta instalments.
The Flames-Oilers clashes on Oct. 28 in Edmonton and March 3 in Calgary will be on Amazon Prime, following its sublicensing of rights from Rogers.
Two other Flames games will be aired on the streaming platform: Nov. 11 vs. the New York Rangers at the Saddledome, and Feb. 24 at the Utah Mammoth.
Because Amazon has acquired the exclusive rights to these games, Canadian viewers will not have a legal alternative if they want to watch them live.
Amazon said it will continue to offer the games as part of the standard Prime Video package, without requiring additional costs beyond the Prime subscription.
Sportsnet will televise the other two Battle of Alberta games this season: March 23 at Calgary and April 5 at Edmonton.
The Montreal Canadiens have the most Amazon Prime games this season among Canadian teams with seven, followed by the Toronto Maple Leafs (6) and Edmonton Oilers (5). The Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets each have four games on the platform, and the Vancouver Canucks have two.
