From the slowest day of the summer to the start of September, things are picking up. The latest Quinn Hughes news seems a bit more consequential than the trickle of recent updates. It seems Hockey Night in Canada, as well as the hockey media world, might be getting a jolt today as Elliotte Friedman becomes a free agent and has not yet signed up for another season of HNiC. Of course, there are more NHL trade rumors surrounding Connor Hellebuyck; we looked at the Pittsburgh Penguins’ abysmal September trade record, and the Penguins named a new rinkside reporter.
So, I’ve been trying to watch Monday Night Raw again. It’s been years since I’ve delved into the squared circle, but I must ask—is the show in a rut? It seems like the same dozen people each week, the same matches, the same missed spots, and a lack of intensity and crowd engagement.
Do they save the good stuff for the specials? Cmon, I was a wee lad with Rowdy Roddy. Then Undertaker. We came of age with Stone Cold and the Rock, then went to the next level of intensity with Triple H and Edge before I drifted away. The shows were wild and unpredictable, and the drama level was always full tilt. Now, it seems muted, almost safe.
Am I missing something? Anyhoo, onto the hockey.

NHLtraderumors.me: Bill Guerin went to the Minnesota State Fair. In between corn dogs. funnel cakes, and rides on the Whipper Wheel, he had to answer questions about Quinn Hughes’s contract talks. However, instead of the usual dodges and general platitudes, Guerin got specific, and it doesn’t sound good for Minnesota.
DLLS: Sam Nestler reports that the Dallas Stars are bailing on the smaller Victory+ streaming service and going big time. Instead of free TV, the Dallas Stars are leading a handful of teams to put their local broadcasts on Amazon.
And this would be a seismic shift in hockey broadcasting. Elliotte Friedman and Kevin Bieksa leaving HNiC??
And because you are asking , I’m told that both Elliotte and Kevin will essentially be free agents when their deals expire today. This doesn’t mean either or both won’t return but my sources tell me neither has yet to do so… As they say, could change in a minute ..

I’m sure TSN or Amazon will scoop up Friedman, but Hockey Night in Canada needs the gravitas of a heavyweight insider.
