The hits keep on coming.

Jacob Melanson, the man who hits anything that moves, has been re-signed to a 3-year, $4.35 million extension ($1.45m AAV).

“We’re excited to re-sign Jacob,” general manager Jason Botterill said via team press release. “He brought a lot of physicality and energy to our group last season, and we’re looking forward to seeing more from him these next few years.”

The 23-year old forward’s defining feature of his game is his physicality, having registered a mouth-watering (and Advil-necessitating) 188 hits in just 36 games. He had 2 goals and 3 assists in 36 games, so nobody’s going to be confusing his scoring ability with Connor McDavid’s. But Connor McDavid never had 12 hits in a single game, so who’s the real “best player in the world and a generational talent” now, hmm?

Melanson is expected to fight for a bottom six role when Kraken training camp opens September 17th.
