Maine native who works for the Carolina Hurricanes brings Stanley Cup to Portland Sea Dogs game
Mike Brown, a native of South Berwick, is the manager of team services for the Hurricanes
PORTLAND, Maine —
As part of a tradition that dates back decades, members of the NHL organization that wins the Stanley Cup — players, coaches and key staff — each get to have their own day with hockey’s ultimate prize over the summer before the next season begins.
Carolina Hurricanes manager of team services Mike Brown, a South Berwick native, wanted to bring the Stanley Cup back to his home state of Maine and decided to take it to Wednesday night’s Portland Sea Dogs game at Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field.
“I think this was a no-brainer for me. I was coming to Sea Dogs games since I was a little kid, and this is the place that made me feel community and made me fall in love with sports,” Brown said. “The Sea Dogs are a big reason why I wanted to work in sports.”
The Sea Dogs also had some fun with the Stanley Cup, showing that 21 Sea Dog Biscuits — the fan-favorite ice cream sandwiches — could fit inside the cup on top of the trophy.

Brown is entering his third season as the Hurricanes’ manager of team services. He is responsible for overseeing team logistics, including travel, hotels, meals and player services.
Before joining the team services department, Brown spent six seasons with Carolina’s communications department.
Prior to joining the Hurricanes in 2018, Brown spent eight seasons with the Boston Bruins as a member of the game-night communications staff. He also worked as a communications intern during the Bruins’ run to the Stanley Cup in 2010-11.
Brown is a graduate of Northeastern University’s School of Journalism and also has experience working for the New England Sports Network (NESN), the Hockey East Association and Northeastern’s athletic department.
The Sea Dogs wound up losing Wednesday’s game 5-2 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
