Hockey fans are holding tough as the NHL season is right around the corner. With the start so close, it’s time again to see how the Dallas Stars fare from the schedule-makers of the hockey season. There is lots of travel coming up for the team that is furthest away from the nearest rival city than anyone. It’s almost a yearly tradition at this point to see all the travel the Stars must do over this season. There is a range this year, from division rivals they will not see until 2027, to other division rivalries that will end before Christmas. Let’s dive in.

Division Rivalries

Such a major playoff implication is how well the Stars do against division opponents during the regular season. Four of those division matchups end right around the finale of the regular season in March/April. Some questionable ones end far earlier. The Stars are major rivals with the Colorado Avalanche. There will be no games against them this season after January 24. These two will get really acquainted early in the season with a home-and-home on October 13 and 14. The Stars and Jets will have their final meeting of the season before Christmas. The Stars play games 10, 18, 34, and 35 against them, ending on December 20th. On the opposite side of the spectrum, the long awaited First-Round rematch of last year’s playoffs must wait until January 30th. The Stars and Wild will meet in January, February, March, and April. Their first meeting in January is the 55th game of the Stars’ season. Remember, this season has 84 games, so the Stars will end with Nashville on April 10th.

On the Road

Surprisingly, the longest road trip of the season is only five games. They play those five games in 6 days. They’ll go from Boston > New York Islanders > New York Rangers > New Jersey > Chicago > Dallas. They’ll stay in the New York metro area from January 15-19, but will have to quickly leave for Chicago on the 20th. They’ll also stay in the same city more than once. They have games in Las Vegas on November 17th and 19th, and in Seattle on December 1st and 3rd. That’s not the only time, as they go to Winnipeg for two games on December 19th and 20th. That significantly cuts down on travel time as the season is now 84 games. No other team will need to spend more than one game in Dallas.

The East

Part of the yearly schedule is playing two games against Eastern Conference opponents. The Stars finish the season series with the Columbus Blue Jackets first, concluding both games by November 5th. They start the season series with the defending Stanley Cup Champions on March 23rd, and end on March 25th, a home-and-home series. That last game is also the finale of their 32-game slate against Eastern opponents. These long road trips are part and parcel of being the Dallas Stars.
