The Sabres are coming off a season in which the team went 50-23-9 and won the NHL’s Atlantic Division. The team took down the Bruins 4-2 in the first round before falling to the Canadiens in seven games in the second round. It was the team’s first playoff appearance since 2011. The team has to replace Bowen Byram this season, as the defenseman was traded to the Blackhawks for the No. 4 pick in this year’s draft.
The Penguins went 41-25-16 last season, finishing second in the Metropolitan Division and then losing to the Flyers in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Pittsburgh faces tough odds this season as the team is trying to build a winning team without completely blowing things up. That worked last season, but the team didn’t really get better this offseason, and Sidney Crosby continues to get older.
