Pittsburgh Penguins center Ben Kindel did not return to the bench for the second period of the team’s first preseason game Monday, and a team tweet later confirmed he was out with a lower-body injury and would not return in what became the Penguins 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Tuesday, the team confirmed Kindel would be out day-to-day. There is no further information or details about when it happened.

Penguins winger Justin Brazeau was also injured Monday. Former Penguins minor-league defenseman Jack Rathbone blatantly tripped Brazeau, who was racing toward the corner for a puck. Brazeau went hard into the boards and briefly left the ice, but returned a couple of minutes later.

He is also out day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

The new information on Tuesday was that winger Ville Koivunen is also out with an injury. He suffered an upper-body injury and is also day-to-day. Koivunen is battling to make the team after signing an eight-year, $32 million contract over the summer. Last season, he played in 39 NHL games, scoring two goals with seven points.
