Amid all the news and celebration of Macklin Celebrini being named captain, the San Jose Sharks made three roster cuts on Friday.
The Sharks sent former first-round pick Filip Bystedt down to the San Jose Barracuda and placed forward Jimmy Huntington and goalie Eric Comrie on NHL Waivers.

Bystedt scored a goal in the Sharks’ 10-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, and coach Ryan Warsofsky said the center made an impression on him. Still, the team doesn’t have room for him on the roster.
Comrie, 31, was expected to be placed on waivers at some point when he signed with the San Jose Sharks on July 1. The netminder is considered the Sharks’ No. 3 goalie behind Yaroslav Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic. SHD spoke with Comrie exclusively on Thursday, and the netminder was prepared for this moment.
“100% it’s fantastic. It’s one of the reasons why I signed in here because it’s just so close,” Comrie said about signing with the Sharks. “Everything’s so close here. I understand coming to camp what the situation looked like. For me, being with my family and having everything so close to us is amazing. It’s truly a remarkable spot for us to be.”
Another NHL franchise could claim Comrie. The San Jose Sharks also signed Ilya Samsonov before camp began to cover an injury, but that could also come in handy if Comrie is claimed. Comrie signed a two-year deal on July 1. Samsonov just cleared immigration and recently hit the ice with his new team.
