St. Louis Blues News & Notes
The Blues open the 2026-27 season Friday night in Dallas without two defensemen. Alex Steen said Tyler Tucker is week-to-week and will seek a second opinion on his knee, while Logan Mailloux underwent surgery on a broken hand sustained in a fight with Chicago’s Cole Smith and is out at least eight weeks before being re-evaluated. Both begin the year on injured reserve. Jim Montgomery declined to reveal his pairings but pointed to the club’s defensive depth.
St. Louis reshuffled the blue line in response, claiming Justin Barron off waivers from Nashville and recalling Adam Jiricek from Springfield. Barron appeared in 52 games for the Predators last season with nine assists, 60 blocked shots and 37 hits. Jiricek, who posted 59 points in 55 OHL games with Brantford, is on the opening night roster and will see power-play time. Calle Rosen and goaltender Georgi Romanov were placed on waivers for assignment to Springfield. The Blues went 1-3-0 in the preseason.
Dallas Stars News & Notes
Dallas opened its exhibition schedule with a 2-1 win in St. Louis on Sept. 19. Arttu Hyry scored 16 seconds into the game off a feed from Cameron Hughes, and Jack Becker added the winner in the second period after collecting a loose puck and beating Jordan Binnington in alone. Remi Poirier started in goal for the Stars after a 27-19-8 season with the AHL’s Texas Stars. Dallas held a 12-7 shot edge in the opening period.
The Stars signed goaltender Casey DeSmith to a two-year, $5 million extension on Sept. 29, a day after announcing their initial roster for the 2026-27 season. Forward Matt Duchene was placed on LTIR yesterday ahead of this game. In July, Dallas added defenseman Kyle Burroughs on a one-year, two-way contract; he had seven points in 18 games with the Ontario Reign last season and has 201 games of NHL experience. The club’s social media hashtag remains #TexasHockey.

Players To Watch
Dylan Holloway — St. Louis Blues
Holloway fired seven shots last time out and logged 23:13, easily the heaviest shot volume on the Blues that night, yet he came away without a point. That combination of ice time and attempts makes him the obvious name for a shots-on-goal prop, and the goal figures to follow if the usage holds.
Thomas Harley — Dallas Stars
Harley scored and put three shots on net in 21:56 last game, the most minutes of any Dallas skater who found the scoresheet. With Matt Duchene out, the Stars need offence from the back end, and Harley’s willingness to shoot makes him a live option for a defenceman point tonight.
