Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Sergei Murashov will make his 2026-27 season debut Monday night when the Winnipeg Jets visit PPG Paints Arena, coach Dan Muse said after the morning skate at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
Arturs Silovs started the first two games, both wins, including a 19-save shutout in the season opener at Philadelphia.
Murashov, 22, played in his first five NHL games last season. He is reasonably expected to be in the NHL for good at this point after he and Silovs emerged as the two goalies out of training camp, with Joel Blomqvist heading to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Meanwhile, winger Bryan Rust, who is on injured reserve because of an upper-body injury, was a participant in the morning skate. However, he stayed on the ice longer than most of his teammates, and a team spokesperson said Rust is still non-contact.
Rust did not participate in line rushes.
During those line rushes, Ville Koivunen, a healthy scratch Saturday, skated on the third line, an indication he could be back in the lineup. Filip Hallander would seem to be the new odd man out. He also remained on the ice long after the others.
“These aren’t easy decisions, but they are good problems to have,” Muse said, repeating what he has said about the competition at forward.
The lines/pairs:

Andrei Kuzmenko-Ben Kindel-Ville Koivunen
