The only thing better than Seattle Kraken prospect Jani Nyman scoring two goals in his first AHL game this season was Nyman scoring three goals in his second game.

Nyman led the Coachella Valley Firebirds to a split of their first two contests, both against the Ontario Reign. The Firebirds lost 6-5 in overtime at home October 2, then beat the Reign 6-2 in Ontario on Oct. 3. For his five goals plus one assist heroics, Nyman was named the initial AHL player of the week.

From a league press release: “Beginning his third season in North America after being selected by Seattle in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft, Nyman has totaled 56 goals and 29 assists for 85 points in 104 AHL games with the Firebirds since his debut in April, 2024.

“Nyman skated in 28 NHL games with the Kraken in 2025-26 and has registered seven goals and six assists in 40 career appearances with the parent club. The 22-year-old native of Valkeakoski, Finland, was an AHL All-Star as a rookie in 2025.”

Kraken Coach Says Nyman Will ‘Continue To Grow’

This goal explosion might have Kraken fans wondering how far Nyman is from earning a spot back in Seattle. “I think he’s done a really good job over the summer of getting a clearer understanding of how the game is played without the puck,” Kraken coach Lane Lambert said before the season.

“I thought he did a pretty good job in training camp. That was one of the biggest areas for him, and he’ll continue to grow in that area.”

Nyman scored two 1st period power play goals in Saturday’s win, then completed his hat trick into an empty net. Other offensive stars for Coachella Valley included defenseman Tyson Jugnauth, who set a regular season team record with four assists (two of those setting up Nyman goals). Jagger Firkus added his first two goals of the season, plus an assist.

The Firebirds, who’ve been off since Saturday, play next at Acrisure Arena on Friday against the San Diego Gulls.
