RANGERS NOTES
ADD TO THE TALLY – The Rangers extended their win streak to four-straight games, the longest-active streak in the NHL. Their three wins at home to start the season are the first since 2009-10 when they recorded a four-game run. New York has now won four of their first five games of the season for the 10th time in New York history and second time in three seasons.
EARNING POINTS – New York leads the league with eight points and their 16 goals scored rank fourth. Scoring five goals for the second time this season, they are one of six teams in the league to have done so. Through 15 periods of play this season, the Blueshirts have led or been tied after 14 of them and have allowed a goal in only five of those 14 periods.
FIRST PERIOD ZEROS – The Rangers have yet to allow a first period goal in each of their first five games, their longest such streak since 1939.
BATTLE OF NEW YORK – Winning their first battle of the regular season against the Islanders, the Rangers have now won six of their last eight games at home against them.
POINT STREAKS – Seven different Rangers skaters extended their point streaks in tonight’s game. Adam Fox and Gabe Perreault both extended their point streaks to four-straight games, both tied for longest-active streak in the league (Fox: 5A, Perreault: 2G-2A). Will Cuylle extended his point streak to three-straight games (Cuylle: 3A). Vladislav Gavrikov, Alexis Lafrenière, J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad have all extended their point streaks to two-straight games (Gavrikov: 1G-3A, Lafreniere: 3G-2A, Miller: 1G-1A, Zibanejad: 3A)
Alexis Lafrenière notched his third career hat trick in tonight’s game. He is one of two players to have done so thus far this season. Notching an assist on Bjorkstrand’s first goal of the game, in addition to his three goals scored, he tallied his second career four-point game and is one of five players in the league to have done so this season.
Oliver Bjorkstrand scored his first goal as a Ranger with the game-opening goal and notched his second with a go-ahead goal in the second period on the power play.
Igor Shesterkin notched his third-straight win this season. He has allowed two or fewer goals in all four games played this season and has done so for the 172nd time in his career. Since 2019-20, his 172 games having allowed two or fewer goals is tied for fourth among all NHL goaltenders.
Cole Beaudoin made his NHL debut.
