Seattle Kraken News & Notes

The Kraken visit the Washington Capitals on Sunday with their forward group thinned. Seattle announced that forward Jacob Melanson has been diagnosed with a vascular aneurysm and is out indefinitely. Defenseman Ryan Lindgren, meanwhile, is expected to miss four to six weeks, according to the league’s status report issued earlier in the week. Lindgren had already drawn attention early in the season, taking a five-minute fighting major against Edmonton’s Trent Frederic in the opening period of the Kraken’s game in Alberta.

Seattle dropped a 3-1 decision at Edmonton on Oct. 3, outshot 25-20 and credited with 13 hits to the Oilers’ 31. Bobby McMann scored the lone goal on the power play in the second period, assisted by Jordan Eberle and Chandler Stephenson, and Philipp Grubauer stopped 22 of 24. The Kraken blocked 18 shots.

Washington Capitals News & Notes

Alex Ovechkin told his teammates last week that his 22nd NHL season will be his last, a decision he confirmed publicly days later. The announcement added weight to Washington’s home opener, which the Capitals won over the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 7. Tom Wilson recorded three points in that game, the last home opener of Ovechkin’s career. The captain’s farewell season follows an offseason in which the Capitals acquired Alex Tuch from Buffalo in a sign-and-trade and signed him to an eight-year extension.

Defenseman Matt Roy left the October 3 game against Tampa Bay with a lower-body injury and was ruled out Friday, while Ryan Leonard has been moved to a checking line.

Players To Watch

Ben Meyers — Seattle Kraken

Meyers put up a goal and two assists last time out on three shots, and he did it in just 13:37 of ice time. That is production squeezed out of fourth-line minutes, so if the Kraken reward him with a longer leash tonight, he is a cheap fantasy add and a live option in the anytime-scorer market.

Alex Tuch — Washington Capitals

Box Score Junkie has Tuch at 62.8 shot attempts for per 60 through the 2026-27 season to date, by far the busiest rate among Washington’s tracked skaters, and he has three goals on 1.9 expected, a plus-1.1 finishing edge. The volume alone makes him the sensible shots-on-goal prop here.
