The St. Louis Blues just completed their first full week of the 2026-27 season. The team went 1-1-1. After losses against the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks, the Blues ended the week with a victory, beating the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-3. Through the first five games of the season, their record sits at 2-2-1 with five points.

As we reflect on the past week, it is time to identify the Blues’ standouts.

Standout #3: Top Line Gets Going

The top line of Robert Thomas, Dylan Holloway, and Jimmy Snuggerud has been quiet early on this season. Through the first four games, Snuggerud was the only one to score, into an empty net on Opening Night. In fact, the top line found themselves on the bench in the final minute of Tuesday’s game against Chicago despite the Blues trailing by only a goal.

On Thursday, the top line showed signs of life. All three had strong scoring chances, with Holloway and Thomas hitting the goalpost and Snuggerud having an opportunity for a rebound right in front of the net. During the game takeaways, I wondered if that game was a sign the line was starting to find its footing.

On Saturday, it definitely found its footing. Thomas recorded his first point of the season, an assist. Holloway recorded three assists. Furthermore, Snuggerud scored two goals just over three minutes apart. The six combined points helped the Blues overcome a 2-0 deficit in front of their home fans.

Saturday delivered the top-line performance Blues fans have been waiting for. Will they continue this momentum moving forward?

Standout #2: Connor McMichael

Connor McMichael is enjoying early success in his first season in St. Louis. The Ontario native scored two goals and added an assist this week. He also had another goal called back on Tuesday after the Blackhawks made a successful offside challenge.

The Blues hope McMichael can return to his 26-goal form from 2024-25. This week was a promising sign. Another sign of hope is how he scored his goals, including the disallowed one. McMichael put himself in front of the net for each goal. His disallowed goal came from crashing the net. Later in the game, he scored by putting in a loose puck while parked in front. His goal in the home opener came from crashing the net and tipping in a pass from Mason McTavish.

If the 25-year-old can keep going to the net, don’t be surprised to see him regularly in the goal column. Don’t overlook his chemistry with McTavish and Jonatan Berggren either.

Standout #1: Mason McTavish

Speaking of McTavish, he is also enjoying early success in his first season wearing the Blue Note. He scored a goal and two assists this week and finished with a plus-1. He has also led the team in shots each of the last two games, recording five on Thursday and four on Saturday.

The McTavish, McMichael, and Berggren line has easily been the Blues’ best through the season’s first five games. McTavish has anchored the line. He is doing exactly what the organization brought him in to do, and we still have 79 games to go.

The Week Ahead

The Blues return to the road this week. They head to Canada for the first time this season when they play the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. They then face two Central Division opponents: the Minnesota Wild on Thursday and the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
