Former University of Maine All-Hockey East winger Bradly Nadeau, whose 59 goals over the past two seasons with the Chicago Wolves is the third-most in the American Hockey League, has been called up by the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes.

The 21-year-old Nadeau had a strong training camp for the reigning Stanley Cup champions, notching two goals and an assist and 11 shots on goal in his three exhibition games. He was sent down due to the Hurricanes’ depth at the forward position.

But three of their top veteran forwards are injured, he was called up earlier this week.

Seth Jarvis is still recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. Captain Jordan Staal is facing a one- or two-month stint on the injured list with a partial calf tear and Taylor Hall suffered an upper-body injury in a game against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

Nadeau had one goal in four games with the Wolves.

He had 27 goals and 29 assists in 52 regular season games with the Wolves last season and added seven goals and 10 assists in 21 playoff games. In addition, he spent 12 games with the Hurricanes and scored three goals.

Two seasons ago, he led all AHL rookies in goals with 32 and was second in points with 58. He became just the sixth teenager since 1940 and third in the last 50 years to score at least 30 goals in an AHL season.

“The No. 1 thing is every time you watch him, you know you’ve got the NHL offensive upside and, every game, he’s continuing to add other NHL aspects to his game,” Hurricanes assistant general manager Darren Yorke told NHL.com. “It’s only a matter of time before he’s in the NHL full-time.”

The 5-foot-11, 181-pound Nadeau was a first round draft pick of the Hurricanes in 2023. He was the 30th overall selection.

During his one season at UMaine (2023-24), he registered 19 goals and 27 assists for 46 points in 37 games. He led the team in goals and points, and tied with older brother and linemate Josh Nadeau for the assists lead.

In addition to being chosen to the All-Hockey East second team, the Saint-Francois-de-Madawaska, New Brunswick, native was also picked to the league’s All-Rookie team and selected to the New England Hockey Writers Association’s all-star squad.

The Hurricanes play in Winnipeg on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and in Calgary on Sunday at 8 p.m.
