According to a team announcement, the Carolina Hurricanes have recalled forward Felix Unger Sorum from the AHL’s Chicago Wolves. In a corresponding roster move, Carolina placed captain Jordan Staal on the injured reserve. Staal will miss the next one to two months with a partially torn calf.
Also recalling Bradly Nadeau yesterday morning, the Hurricanes now have two of their better forward prospects on the roster for the foreseeable future. Carolina selected both in the 2023 NHL Draft: Nadeau at 30th, and Unger Sorum at 62nd.
Like Nadeau, most of Unger Sorum’s professional career has been spent with AHL Chicago. Since debuting with the organization in 2024-25, Unger Sorum has only one NHL appearance. He performed well in that contest, tallying one assist in 14:35 against the New York Islanders on April 14th, 2026.
Still, if his AHL performances are any indication, Carolina has plenty to be excited about with Unger Sorum. He played especially well last season, scoring 17 goals and 66 points in 72 AHL contests with a +13 rating. He also registered five goals and 12 points in 14 postseason contests.
Similarly to Nadeau, Unger Sorum has not surpassed the Hurricanes’ current forward depth. It’s a testament to the depth Carolina has built, but Unger Sorum and Nadeau must take advantage of these opportunities if they want to influence the Hurricanes’ front office to retain them.
