Brady Tkachuk scored three times, carrying the Florida Panthers to a come-from-behind 3-2 overtime win over the visiting Vancouver Canucks Thursday at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla.

Seth Jones had a pair of assists for the winners (4-2-2), while Akira Schmid made 15 saves to earn the win in goal.

Liam Öhgren and defenceman Elias Pettersson replied for the Canucks (2-6-1), while goalie Leevi Merilainen was outstanding, making 36 saves.

The Panthers carried the play early in the first period, but Merilainen help firm.

Öhgren opened the scoring on Vancouver’s first shot at 7:23, beating Schmid from the slot after a failed Florida clearing attempt for his second goal of the young season.

Petterson upped the lead to 2-0 with his third of the year at 17:05. He took a pass from Filip Chytil (making his season debut after recovering from a shoulder injury) and slotted it past Schmid.

Shots on goal after one period favoured the Panthers, 15-8.

A tight-checking second period saw both teams go scoreless. Florida outshot Vancouver 9-4 in the frame, holding a 24-11 advantage after 40 minutes.

Florida finally broke through in the third period. Tkachuk scored his fourth of the year at 11:11, one-timing a pass from Aaron Ekblad at the top of the right offensive faceoff circle past Merilainen.

The Panthers pulled Schmid in favour of an extra attacker with 2:30 remaining. The Canucks looked like they were going to hang on but Tkachuk scored again with 12.8 seconds left, powering a bouncing puck past Merilainen, again from the right circle, to tie things at 2-2.

Tkachuk completed the comeback with his hat-trick (his second in two games) goal, beating Merilainen low to the glove side at 2:23 of the 3-on-3 overtime period.

The Canucks wrap up their six-game road swing Saturday (1 p.m.) when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning.
