Kent Hughes and his staff are looking to land a major star, according to David Pagnotta, who has spoken with numerous people around the NHL.

Either player would be a major addition for the Canadiens, but the price has to make sense. Giving up a prospect like Michael Hage would be a tough pill to swallow.

Kent Hughes is clearly pushing to make a major move and add some serious firepower up front.

And it’s easy to see why.

Canadiens’ pursuit of Dylan Larkin or Mark Scheifele shouldn’t come at the cost of Michael Hage

Larkin, 30, has three points in five games with the Detroit Red Wings, and his contract carries an $8.7 million cap hit. According to Pierre LeBrun, Montreal isn’t on his 10-team no-trade list, at least for now.

Scheifele, 33, has seven points in seven games with Winnipeg, including six assists, and earns $8.5 million per season. He’s producing more right now, but he’s also older.

A second-line center would certainly help the Canadiens, who sit at 3-3-1, but not enough to justify giving up a prospect of Michael Hage’s caliber.

At least, that’s our take.

Kent Hughes has other pieces he could offer, including Kirby Dach or Oliver Kapanen, but patience is starting to wear thin in Montreal.”I’ve talked to a lot of people around the league…and they’ve all indicated that Kent Hughes and his staff want to go after a really big fish.”

One thing is clear: Kent Hughes is still working hard to make his team better!
