Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid called Montreal a special place to play hockey, praising Canadiens fans and the Bell Centre’s electric atmosphere.

Personally, we’d offer McDavid the maximum salary to bring him to Montreal. And we genuinely believe it could happen. At this point, we don’t think it’s as unrealistic as some might think.

He even enjoys being booed by Canadiens fans whenever he visits, but he especially appreciated the support they showed him during the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Team Canada played two games at the Bell Centre during the tournament, with McDavid recording a goal and an assist.

Connor McDavid’s praise for Montreal offers no indication of a future Canadiens deal

McDavid, 29, is in the first year of a two-year contract. His ultimate goal is to win a Stanley Cup, something he has yet to accomplish in Edmonton despite coming agonizingly close twice.

His numbers remain incredible: 23 points in eight games, including six goals, and a plus-19 rating. He carries a $12.5 million annual cap hit.

Of course, we shouldn’t read too much into his comments. McDavid praised Montreal while speaking to a local media outlet, but that doesn’t mean he’ll eventually sign with the Canadiens.

You can see McDavid’s comment in the video below:

For now, it’s just admiration from afar, but if McDavid ever decides to leave Edmonton, Montreal would certainly love to turn those kind words into something much bigger.

And if the Canadiens keep moving in the right direction, who knows? McDavid might eventually see Montreal as more than just a great place to visit.
