Anaheim Ducks News & Notes

Leo Carlsson has driven Anaheim’s start, posting six points in his first three games after a goal and an assist against Vegas, three assists versus Florida and two more against Edmonton. The Ducks opened with a 4-3 win over the Golden Knights and a 3-2 overtime victory against the Panthers before a 5-2 loss in Edmonton. Carlsson, the second overall pick in 2023, signed a five-year, $90 million offer sheet from Philadelphia this summer that Anaheim matched, a cap commitment that factored into the club moving on from Chris Kreider.

Injuries have thinned the forward group. Troy Terry is on injured reserve, while Cutter Gauthier and Ryan Poehling were both listed day-to-day after leaving the win in Calgary; Poehling was later ruled out six to eight weeks with a sprained MCL. Mikael Granlund is also day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Anaheim recalled Roger McQueen, the tenth pick in 2025, from San Diego, where he had three goals in four games. Earlier, the fourth line of Jeff Malott, Judd Caulfield and Tim Washe produced three goals in a 5-1 win at Winnipeg.

New York Rangers News & Notes

New York opened the 2026-27 season 6-2-0, its best start since beginning 2024-25 at 6-1-1 through eight games. That stretch came despite losing Igor Shesterkin for the remainder of the year to an injury sustained in a 3-1 loss to Washington. The Rangers answered with a 6-2 win over Vancouver and a 4-1 win over Tampa Bay, then were shut out Saturday at Nationwide Arena, where Kent Johnson scored in overtime for a 1-0 Columbus victory.

Dylan Garand has carried the crease, going 3-1-0 with a 1.15 goals-against average, a .951 save percentage and one shutout over his first four appearances, ranking second in the NHL in both rate statistics. He has yet to face 30 shots in a game. Backup Joonas Korpisalo is expected to miss roughly four weeks, and Elliotte Friedman has downplayed the Rangers as a destination for suspended Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.

Players To Watch

Beckett Sennecke — Anaheim Ducks

Sennecke scored on his only shot last time out while logging 23:12, and the underlying work backs it up. Box Score Junkie has him at 56.9% Corsi-for and 57.9% Fenwick this season to date, with 65.0 shot attempts for per 60. He’s also five goals on 3.3 expected, so finishing has been a bonus.

Gabe Perreault — New York Rangers

Perreault fired six shots in his last outing over 18:37 and came away with nothing on the scoresheet, the kind of night that makes a shots-on-goal prop worth a look. With the Rangers held off the board by their top six last game, he’s the one generating volume and the likeliest to break through.
