The Philadelphia Flyers were back at home after their first win of the year to face off against the Colorado Avalanche. The Flyers are starting to build some momentum now as they take down the Avalanche by a score of 3-2.

Tonight was Matvei Michkov’s night, the team’s leading scorer had 2 tonight and just was playing with so much confidence all night. Michkov’s first goal came on the power play and just like the game before it came off a rebound where he crashed the net from the wing and was at the right place at the right time.

Joseph Woll finally gets his first win as a Flyer despite being one of the team’s best players in this young season. The Flyers will next head to Buffalo to face the Sabres on Wednesday night to try and extend the winning streak to 3 games.

Game Breakdown

1st Period

The Flyers came out in the 1st period with no hangover from their first win of the season on Saturday night. The Flyers had a strong start even going on the power play 7 minutes into the game. The power play may have found their stride as the Flyers connected off a Matvei Michkov rebound finish to give them the 1-0 lead. An unsuccessful challenge for goaltender interference resulted in another Flyers power play. Even though the Flyers came out empty on the second man up advantage it was still a strong 2 minutes and got a few good scoring chances out of it. Not many errors for the Flyers in the 1st and looked like they belonged on the ice against the Avalanche which was a concern of many heading into the game.

2nd Period

We are now starting to see the Matvei Michkov that everyone has been waiting for. Michkov recorded his second goal of the night with it being his sixth of the year. Michkov almost pulled off the goal of the year being one on one with the goalie then going between his legs to set himself up for the shot but Blackwood was able to make a save. The Flyers did surrender a goal to Martin Necas with a snipe right from the point to make it 2-1. Not the Flyers strongest period although not a bad period. Flyers still lead in the shot department 18-17 heading into the 3rd.

3rd Period

Flyers started out the 3rd on a good note, they picked up where they left off in the 1st and were having more offensive zone time. Flyers got on the board first in this period thanks to a deflection goal from Noel Acciari, his first as a Flyer. Oliver Bonk got the shot off from the point after a great forecheck by Trevor Zegras to cause the turnover to make it 3-1. Then late in the 3rd the Avalanche made it a one goal game because of a goal from T.J. Hughes off of a rebound shot.
