Detroit Red Wings News & Notes
Detroit is 3-3-2 with eight points, seventh in the Atlantic, and opens a four-game road trip in Seattle. John Gibson has handled the bulk of the work at 2-3-1 with a 3.58 goals-against average and an .873 save percentage. Daniil Tarasov, signed this summer after backing up in Florida, is 1-0-1 with a 0.79 goals-against average, a .965 save percentage and a shutout in three appearances, leading the league in both rate statistics.
The second line has carried the offense, with Emmitt Finnie moving to center between Alex DeBrincat and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard while Marco Kasper and J.T. Compher are out. That trio has outscored opponents 7-1 in roughly 70 minutes together. Detroit has points in four straight games. Jacob Bernard-Docker was placed on waivers Saturday with seven defensemen ahead of him, and Simon Edvinsson remains unsigned as contract talks continue.
Seattle Kraken News & Notes
Seattle’s recent road work has produced little. The Kraken were overwhelmed in Florida on Oct. 17, falling behind on Sam Bennett’s goal 65 seconds in and trailing 6-2 after two periods as Carter Verhaeghe completed a natural hat trick. Shane Wright’s tip-in briefly tied that game. Two days earlier in Tampa, Seattle dropped a 4-3 overtime decision in which Brandon Montour was injured. In the Oct. 3 loss at Edmonton, Bobby McMann scored the lone goal and Philipp Grubauer stopped 22 of 24 shots.
The blue line has been scrambled by injuries. Ryan Lindgren was ruled out four to six weeks earlier this month, and Montour’s absence has further thinned the group. Up front, Jacob Melanson is out indefinitely after being diagnosed with a vascular aneurysm. The roster was reshaped over the summer under second-year coach Lane Lambert, who replaced Dan Bylsma in May 2025. Seattle acquired Mackie Samoskevich from Florida for the 25th overall pick and traded Devin Kaplan to Philadelphia hours before the season opener.

Players To Watch
Alex DeBrincat — Detroit Red Wings
DeBrincat scored on two shots last time out, and the underlying work backs it up: Box Score Junkie has him at 61.7% Corsi-for and 61.1% Fenwick through 161 minutes this season, with 73.7 shot attempts for per 60. He’s also five goals on 4.4 expected, so the finishing is there. A fine anytime-scorer play.
Berkly Catton — Seattle Kraken
Catton set up two goals in just 15:00 last game, and Box Score Junkie’s 2026-27 numbers like the minutes he drives: 54.0% Corsi-for, 54.8% Fenwick and 64.0 shot attempts for per 60 over 134 minutes, best among Seattle regulars. Two goals on 2.1 expected says the production is honest, not luck.
