Tampa Bay Lightning News & Notes

Tampa Bay’s roster math remains the organizing fact of its season. The Lightning entered the year with roughly $1.9 million in cap space, limiting any in-season addition of consequence. The elite core is aging on a defined timeline: Nikita Kucherov is 33, Victor Hedman 35 and Andrei Vasilevskiy 32. Behind them sit Brandon Hagel, Jake Guentzel and Brayden Point, whose best four-year window is underway, with Anthony Cirelli anchoring the defensive center role.

The summer business centered on depth rather than stars. Tampa Bay signed Carlson and Mikheyev, additions that were framed as opening a larger opportunity for Geekie, and the club finalized its 2026-27 roster earlier this month. The blue line has already been tested, with a key defenseman sidelined by injury within the past two weeks. The Lightning close out a six-game Vancouver road trip at home, the Canucks’ tenth game of the season.

Vegas Golden Knights News & Notes

Vegas enters this stretch under a new voice behind the bench. The Golden Knights relieved Bruce Cassidy of his duties and named John Tortorella head coach, a change announced by the club in the spring. The roster also turned over in the offseason: forward Keegan Kolesar was traded to Detroit as free agency opened, while William Karlsson stayed put, signing a two-year extension worth $13.5 million to remain at center.

The injury list has grown early. Victor Olofsson, the team’s leading goal scorer, left a game against Seattle and is week to week. Defenseman Parker Wotherspoon, added over the summer, is also out indefinitely. Vegas trimmed its training camp roster to 28 before the season, then placed five players on waivers in the final round of cuts, a sequence that opened spots for Trevor Connelly and Raphael Lavoie on the opening-night roster.
