The Buffalo Sabres (4-3-2) look to continue racking up points in the NHL standings, as they host the Philadelphia Flyers (2-6-3) on Wednesday night at KeyBank Center.
Through two periods, Buffalo trails the Flyers 2-1.
Cole Knuble, son of longtime Flyer Mike Knuble, scored his first career NHL goal to make it 1-0 for Philadelphia. Trevor Zegras would double the Flyers lead with a late power play goal, after Zegras found the puck and batted in out of the air.
Special teams played a huge part in Buffalo’s favor in the second period, as they killed off a 5-on-3 late in the second period. Already down a man, Buffalo was forced to play two down after a questionable high-sticking call against Owen Power. After killing off the two penalties, Buffalo immediately drew a penalty of their own and made sure to capitalize. Jason Zucker was parked right next to the net, where Jack Quinn found him to help Buffalo get on the board on the power play. Zucker’s first of the year, in his return to the lineup, made it a 2-1 game after 40 minutes.
