The Boston Bruins are looking to extend their point streak to eight games tonight.
The Bruins are hosting the San Jose Sharks to put a bow on the season series. It’s the first season series that the Bruins are wrapping up during the 2026-27 regular season, and the Bruins are looking for the sweep. Morgan Geekie has just one goal through his first 11 games this season, and while he is second on the team with seven assists, he knows there’s more in his game.
Bruins lines tonight: projected lineup and starting goalie →
Elsewhere around the league, Connor Hellebuyck was finally traded. The Jets ended the saga, and the gold medal-winning goalie is headed to the Metropolitan Division. There is more trade talk surrounding the Detroit Red Wings. Paul Maurice called out his team after a second straight loss, and save percentages are down.
Happy Saturday, catch up on Bruins and league news in today’s Daily Bean:
Boston Bruins
GAMEDAY: The Bruins (8-2-1) are closing out their season series against the San Jose Sharks (6-4-1) tonight. The Bruins have points in their last seven games, which includes a 6-3 win in San Jose on Oct. 13. The Sharks are wrapping up a six-game road trip, and they are 3-1-1 so far with wins in their last two.
GEEKIE: Morgan Geekie scored 72 goals over the last two seasons, but he has not found that same puck luck this season. He is still contributing, with seven assists this season, but his one goal in 11 games is not the only number that is down this season. Geekie discussed his scoring slump and what it might take to get back on track.
NEXT UP: The Bruins will hold morning skate at 10:30 AM at TD Garden. They will have the day off on Sunday before practicing in Brighton, then traveling to Raleigh on Monday morning.
NHL News & National Hockey Now
New Jersey Hockey Now: It finally happened. Connor Hellebuyck was traded. The New Jersey Devils swooped in yesterday and acquired the 2024-25 Hart Trophy winner on the day his suspension lifted.
Going back the other way: Dawson Mercer, Nico Daws, Nick Bjugstad, Alexander Command, a 2029 2nd-rounder and a 2027 7th-rounder.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Following the trade, James Nichols and Daniel Amoia teamed up to dish out some grades.
Sportsnet: The Detroit Red Wings still have some business to get to. Dylan Larkin has yet to be traded, and Simon Edvinsson is still an RFA. On Thursday’s episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Red Wings are looking for young centers for their two unhappy players.
Florida Hockey Now: Paul Maurice was not happy after the Panthers were shut out 4-0 in Pittsburgh on Thursday. After being outscored 9-1 in two games, Maurice questioned whether “arrogance and softness” had crept into the Panthers’ room, adding, “I need to get their attention.”
San Jose Hockey Now: The Sharks are in town today, and Sheng Peng has the analysis from their 6-2 win in Ottawa. Igor Chernyshov had been surging, but now he will “be out a little bit” after an upper-body injury on Thursday. He was playing on the first line with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, and the numbers show how much that line improved with the 20-year-old on it.
Colorado Hockey Now: The Bruins are still at the top of the Atlantic Division, and now they have a little more breathing room. The Avalanche beat the Lightning 6-3 last night with six different goal scorers getting in on the action. Aarif Deen has the good and bad from last night’s game.
Montreal Hockey Now: The Montreal Canadiens were without Nick Suzuki for the first time since 2019. They did not play an exciting game last night, but it was enough to pick up two points in a 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Marc Dumont has the highlights.
Sportsnet: Save percentages have declined over the last 10 seasons, and so far this season, the trend is continuing. Sportsnet’s Justin Bourne looks at why that may be the case, even if goalies are improving.
