Minnesota Wild News & Notes
Quinn Hughes made his first appearance in Vancouver since leaving the Canucks on Oct. 25 and heard a mixed reception, with boos mingling with cheers through the night. The former Vancouver captain answered with the game-winning goal and reached a personal milestone in Minnesota’s victory, which extended the Canucks’ losing streak to 10 games. Hughes said afterward that he was proud of his time with the organization despite the rough welcome from the crowd.
Minnesota visits Utah on Tuesday with first place in the Central Division at stake, the Mammoth having opened the season at a similar pace. The Wild also remain attached to Dylan Larkin trade speculation, with reports indicating Detroit’s asking price has included forward Danila Yurov and that Montreal is pushing as a rival suitor. Off the ice, a new DIRECTV agreement gives Wild fans another way to watch games this season.
Utah Mammoth News & Notes
Defenseman Dmitri Simashev scored the first two goals of his NHL career on Oct. 24, the second in overtime, to lift Utah past Tampa Bay 5-4 in a comeback win at home. “I feel like I’m sleeping right now,” Simashev said afterward. The 2023 first-round pick, in his first full NHL season, had spoken days earlier about feeling more comfortable at the level, saying he was living his life and his dream.
Utah’s name has surfaced in two of the league’s larger trade storylines. ESPN reported that Detroit captain Dylan Larkin has expanded his list of acceptable trade destinations to 10 teams, with the Mammoth among the additions and described as the most intriguing of the new names. Utah has also been linked to a possible deal for a star goaltender. The club entered Tuesday’s home meeting with Minnesota with the Central Division lead at stake.
