The captain may soon be on the ice in game action again.

Colorado Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog hasn’t played since helping the Avs win the 2022 Stanley Cup Final.

He’s trying to come back from knee cartilage replacement surgery in May 2023, a procedure no NHL player has returned from before.

Landeskog has been skating with the team for a bit now and on Wednesday he was loaned to the Colorado Eagles of the AHL on a “conditioning assignment.”

The Eagles, who play at Blue FCU Arena in Loveland, are the top minor league affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche.

The Eagles have home games Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 (both at 7:05 p.m.) against Henderson in games Landeskog could potentially make his return to action.

Those are the final two home games of the regular season for the Eagles before three on the road next week. The Avs have three games left in the regular season before the playoffs start next week.

Because Landeskog is on long-term injured reserve, he can be loaned to the Eagles on a conditioning stint for a maximum of six days or three games, according to the Denver Post. It could then pave the way for his return to the Avs for the playoffs.

The Avs will be the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference’s Central Division. The Eagles are currently No. 1 in the Pacific Division in the AHL.
