The San Jose Sharks lack buy-in from every player.

That’s what head coach Ryan Warsofsky admitted to post-game, and it was apparent on the ice, as the Ottawa Senators ran the home team out of their own building, 5-1.

Michael Misa scored the lone goal.

“We’re 15 games into it, and we probably still haven’t played really a complete game,” Warsofsky complained. “Maybe Florida, but that was so long [ago].”

Warsofsky suggested changes on the way for the San Jose’s next contest, Michael Misa spoke about the hard Tyler Kleven hit, Kiefer Sherwood had some issue with his game misconduct, and Barclay Goodrow tried to diagnose everything going wrong with the Sharks on the ice.

A deeper game story with micro-stats from Stathletes and game action clips, Sharks Insight, will be published soon.

Ryan Warsofsky

Warsofsky, on the Senators:

They’re a really good team. I think it’s probably the best team we’ve seen this year. Obviously, seen them twice now. They’re a good team. They’re fast. They’re connected. They’re competitive. They’re into people. They got snarl.

Warsofsky, on if some San Jose Sharks players lack buy-in:

Absolutely. We got to work on that.

Warsofsky, on the frustration of dealing with lack of buy-in a month into season:

Yeah, that’s probably the most frustrating thing, right? We’re 15 games into it, and we probably still haven’t played really a complete game. Maybe Florida, but that was so long [ago].

Are #SJSharks lacking some buy-in from the players?

“Absolutely. We got to work on that,” Warsofsky says.

Says the coaching staff will look at everything, including benchings, playing time & their own systems, in terms of getting team out of rut

Warsofsky, on if his fourth line is providing a consistent identity:

Probably not consistent enough. I think we see it in spurts, and I think that’s our team right now. We see it in spurts. We don’t see it consistently enough.

Warsofsky, on if he has tools at his disposal to get the guys going:

I think there is. Looks, sometimes, the best tool a coach has is to take someone out, take away ice time. So we’ll look at everything.

Michael Misa

Misa, on the Tyler Kleven hit:

That was my fault. I gotta be better, keep my head up there. I was trying to make a play. I thought I had a step on him, obviously didn’t. I gotta be better. Gotta look next time, chip that by him, and get on the offense there.

Misa, on the Senators:

They’re a great team. Well-coached. Their style of play, they move the pucks out quick, get it in our zone, and they made it tough on us tonight.

Kiefer Sherwood

Sherwood, on his game misconduct for (possibly) getting into it with Samuel Ersson:

I got a lot of respect for our refs and linesmen in our league. They have a hard job to do. But there’s no warning. There’s nothing like I don’t know. I don’t know. It’s I don’t know. Like I don’t think I did anything wrong. I try to get under guy’s skin at certain times to get ourselves the momentum. If there’s a problem, then I need to be pulled aside or get a warning or something. You can’t just give a 10 minute for yapping or I don’t know. Emotions got picked up there a little bit with Misa being hit. I obviously cannot put our team in that position either. My fault on taking the 10. But I also think that it could have been handled maybe a little bit better. We’ll look at that both sides. I can’t put our team in that position. But yeah, at the same time, I don’t know what warranted a 10-minute misconduct.

That’s between me and the goalie [what was said]. Like I said, the heat of the emotions of the game picked up. I got a lot of respect for the refs. They have a hard job, and they’re always the villains to both teams, right? I didn’t say anything inappropriate, it was just trying to get under his skin before we get our power play. That’s what I’m trying to do. I try to, like I said, get under a guy’s skin at certain times of the game, and try to use the momentum to our favor, and that plays out in a lot of different ways over the course of the game. Yeah, I don’t know if it warranted a 10, but I apologize for putting ourselves in that position because it can’t happen.

Sherwood, on the Senators:

They just kind of smother all over the ice, right? They pinch on everything. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes? But they’re just in your face. So I think that’s something that we got to do more of moving forward.

Barclay Goodrow

Goodrow, on what’s wrong with the San Jose Sharks:

That’s a little bit of everything. If we’re not breaking up pucks well, we’re giving up lots of shots, and then in the O-zone, we’re not getting enough pucks to the net. Just don’t have the shooting mind-set. Obviously, we need to get shots against down and shots for up.
