Ottawa Senators News & Notes

Ottawa closed October with a 5-1 win in San Jose, scoring four straight after the Sharks had tied it and breaking the game open with three second-period goals. Tim Stützle and Dylan Cozens led the way in the victory, which snapped a losing skid on the California swing. The result also gave the Senators their ninth win of October, tying a franchise record for the month and keeping the road trip from unravelling.

Anaheim Ducks News & Notes

The Ducks placed veteran defenseman Nick Jensen on waivers Saturday, a move made for a potential AHL assignment and one that came only months after Anaheim signed him to a two-year, $4.5 million contract. Jensen, who has appeared in 697 NHL games, had dressed three times for the Ducks this season. The decision thins an experienced presence from the right side of a blue line that has leaned heavily on younger options through the opening weeks.

Anaheim also recalled goaltender Laurent Brossoit from San Diego of the AHL, and he is in line to start Sunday against Ottawa at Honda Center. The call-up gives the Ducks a veteran option in net for the spot assignment rather than running their usual tandem again on the back half of the homestand. Brossoit had been working through games with the Gulls before the recall.
