Calgary Flames News & Notes
Calgary fell 4-1 to the Avalanche in Denver on Saturday, with Colorado scoring the game’s first four goals. The loss went to Arsenii Sergeev, who was making the second NHL start of his career after debuting in April, when he stopped 27 shots in a win over Los Angeles. Sergeev’s first taste of a hostile building came in a game Colorado controlled early, and Calgary could not recover from the four-goal hole.
The Flames continue their road trip Monday in San Jose, where the Sharks are looking for consistency at home. Calgary had better results against the Sharks last season, including a 2-0 win in November, a 3-2 decision in January and a 4-1 victory in February, though San Jose took a 6-3 meeting in December. Joel Farabee is among the Calgary forwards being tracked for scoring in the matchup.
San Jose Sharks News & Notes
Defenseman Darnell Nurse’s recent absence traces back to a third-period fight with Boston’s Nikita Zadorov, after which he went down awkwardly and may have hit his head on the ice. The team listed the injury as undisclosed, though a Yahoo Sports report described it as upper-body and suggested San Jose avoided the worst case. Nurse, acquired from Edmonton in the trade that sent Shakir Mukhamadullin the other way, had a goal, 12 blocked shots and eight hits in six games.

Players To Watch
Matvei Gridin — Calgary Flames
Gridin owns the best underlying numbers on the Flames roster, per Box Score Junkie’s 2026-27 season-to-date figures: 60.0% Corsi-for, 60.4% Fenwick and 73.4 shot attempts for per 60 across 218 minutes. He’s also converting, with five goals on 2.6 expected, +2.4 over the mark. Worth a look on anytime-scorer markets.
Macklin Celebrini — San Jose Sharks
Celebrini was held off the sheet with two shots in 19:43 last time out, but Box Score Junkie’s 2026-27 numbers say the chances keep coming: 56.5% Corsi-for, 57.4% Fenwick and 7.8 high-danger expected goals generated with him on the ice. Six goals on 5.6 expected means the finishing is real, not luck.
