Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) – The National Hockey League revealed its new line of “Hometown Remix” jerseys for all 32 teams this season, and eager Buffalo Sabres fans lined up early Monday morning to grab their jerseys to add to their closet.

Hometown Remix is a league-wide initiative between the NHL and Fanatics – the league’s official jersey manufacturer – which produced special edition jerseys with design details that draw on local landmarks, motifs and culture, grounding each look in something recognizable to fans.

The Sabres’ Hometown Remix jersey features the famed “goat head” logo in royal blue and metallic gold colors, featuring a supercharged buffalo front crest, an energized “B” logo with an electrified sabre, debossed lightning bolts and stars sleeve, and custom numbers that are inspired by the city’s electric history. The jersey takes on elements from Buffalo’s official city flag.

It was a look that had Sabres fans lining up as early as 8 a.m. EST Monday to get their hands on at the Sabres Store inside KeyBank Center in Downtown Buffalo.

“I think it looks awesome,” said John from Niagara Falls after getting his hands on a Reverse Retro jersey. “I think return of the blue and gold for the goat head, everybody’s been kind of asking for that, so it’s pretty sweet. It was either that or they went back to the old swords crossed. I think it’s unique and I think it’s cool.”

“I like the blend of the old school red and black logo with the colors of the 50th anniversary look,” added Aaron from Hamburg with WBEN.

Some details of the jersey had been leaked for some team ahead of the official unveiling at 10 a.m. EST on Monday. That certainly helped generate plenty of buzz around the new jersey before its release.

” I did enjoy the leaks, and I think they should have done a little bit more of it. I think if there was more runtime up to it, it would have been even better,” said Mike from Amherst. “But I think you need that to get people excited for it. I always enjoy the little tidbits they release.”

“This is almost the ‘River Hockey’ jersey that we wanted last year,” added Kevin from Buffalo. “This is a jersey of a team that’s going to get nitty and gritty, and hopefully – especially after this West Coast run – really start to pick up the pace.”

While fans felt the release of the new Hometown Remix jerseys were a bit later than maybe they should have been, the expectations for Buffalo’s new look were met, and then some.

“That’s what we were hoping for, something that ties into our history. You can’t beat stuff like that,” said Jake from North Tonawanda. “I’ve seen some of the other ones that just kind of look really bland and not well thought out, but we got a good one here.”

” I think the thing that makes it unique is everyone obviously loves the goat head. They love that, but they also love the traditional colors of the Sabres. And just to mesh the two of those together, I think that’s what makes it unique and awesome,” added Jeff from Orchard Park.

The Sabres will debut their new Hometown Remix jerseys on Wednesday night when they host the Ottawa Senators at KeyBank Center.
