Penn State hockey’s unprecedented recruiting momentum continued Friday with a commitment from Pierce Mbuyi for the 2026 class:

Pierce Mbuyi, a top prospect for the 2026 class, has committed to Penn State.

He was the OHL Rookie of the Year this past season.

Another solid get for Penn State and another draft-eligible out the door for the CHL.

Mbuyi (pronounced like “buoy”) tallied 29 goals and 23 assists in 63 games for the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL. He is expected to join the Nittany Lions for the 2026-27 season. Mbuyi was named the OHL Rookie of the Year and is a projected first round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

The CHL-to-Hockey Valley pipeline has been red hot. Other top CHL players committed to PSU include 2025 recruits Shea Van Olm, Luke Misa, Lev Katzin, Nolan Collins, and Josh Fleming. Jackson Smith was reportedly committed to Penn State by Scott Wheeler, but the report was later walked back. It is still very possible Smith ends up in State College.

Penn State has also been linked to other top prospects in the 2025 and 2026 NHL Entry Drafts. Porter Martone and Michael Misa are consensus top 5 draft picks in 2025, and Gavin McKenna is projected to go No. 1 overall in 2026.

Only 111 days until Penn State’s season opener against Arizona State!
