KENNEWICK, Wash. – A major change is underway for the Tri-City Americans as defenseman Jackson Smith announced his departure from the team.
Smith took to Instagram to share that he has committed to playing at Penn State University. He expressed gratitude towards the organization, fans, and his billet family, stating they played a crucial role in his development.
The Calgary native spent more than two seasons with the Americans, accumulating 85 points during his time with the team.
Reflecting on his decision, Smith said, “I love Tri Cities, loved everything about it. The fans, the people, the organization is incredible. So it was really hard to make the decision to leave. But, just going on the visit, seeing the facilities and feeling the love that you get from them as well. It was really incredible. I think I can just develop a bit more.”
Smith is anticipated to be a first-round draft pick in this month’s NHL Draft, representing the Tri-City Americans.
