Oilers at Panthers Game 6

Panthers lead series 3-2

Series odds: Panthers -350, Oilers +280

With a 5-2 win in Game 5, the Panthers have pushed Edmonton to the brink of elimination. It’s a familiar feeling for these teams; the Oilers were in this position last year after just three games and managed to extend the series to seven. Can they go the distance again this year?

If the Oilers are going to play another day, they need to find a way to contain Sam Bennett and Brad Marchand, who continue to dominate this series. The good news for Edmonton is that Connor McDavid finally broke through with a goal in Game 5. But the Oilers still have a lot of work to do, on both ends of the ice.

The Panthers rolled right past Edmonton’s defense and controlled play in the middle of the ice in Game 5. The Oilers, on the other hand, weren’t able to cut through Florida’s defense and only created a couple of dangerous looks against Sergei Bobrovsky. That left Calvin Pickard completely exposed in goal.

The Oilers have a few tough decisions for Game 6 — from which goaltender to deploy to lineup and tactical adjustments — to better compete with the Panthers.
