Apparently the Edmonton Oilers are sold on Trent Frederic.

After acquiring the Bruins forward at the deadline, Edmonton is nearing an eight-year deal with Frederic that will pay between $3.5 million and $4 million per season, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli. The insider cautioned that the deal won’t be announced imminently though, as the Oilers are attending to other business, too.

Eight years and roughly $30 million represents a major commitment to the 27-year-old Frederic, who scored just one goal and added three assists in Edmonton’s 22-game playoff run to the Stanley Cup Final.

A heavy-hitting forward, Frederic was a Bruins first-round pick in 2016 and spent the first seven seasons of his career in Boston, scoring 55 goals and adding 54 assists in 337 games.

Don Sweeney dealt Frederic and Max Jones to the Oilers at the trade deadline for a second-round pick, a fourth-round pick, and defensive prospect Max Wanner. Frederic was battling an ankle injury at the time and only appeared in one regular season game for the Oilers before playing the entire postseason run.
